Dato’ Seri Ismail ShahudinDato’ Seri Ismail Shahudin was appointed as a Director and Chairman of Maybank Islamic on 28 January 2010. He was Chairman of Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad from 2004 until his retirement in July 2008. He has held senior positions in Citibank, serving both in Malaysia and New York, United Asian Bank and Maybank where he was appointed Executive Director in 1997. He left Maybank in 2002 to assume the position of Group Chief Executive Officer of MMC Corporation Berhad prior to his appointment to the Board of Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad. His current directorship in companies within the Maybank Group include as Director of Malayan Banking Berhad (“Maybank”). He serves as Chairman of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee, the Employee Share Option Scheme Committee and as a member of the Credit Review Committee of the Board of Maybank. He is also a director of several public listed companies which include PLUS Expressways Berhad, Mutiara Goodyear Development Berhad, SMPC Corporation Berhad, EP Manufacturing Berhad, and Aseana Properties Limited, a company listed on the London Stock Exchange. He attended 3 of the 3 Board Meetings held in the financial year ended 30 June 2010 since his appointment on 28 January 2010. Dato’ Seri Ismail Shahudin has no family relationship with any director and/ or major shareholder of Maybank. Tan Sri Datuk Dr Hadenan A. JalilTan Sri Datuk Dr Hadenan bin A. Jalil was appointed as a Director of Maybank Islamic on 28 January 2010. Tan Sri Datuk Dr Hadenan bin A. Jalil was Auditor General from 2000 to 2006. He served with the Government for 36 years in various capacities in the Treasury, the Ministry of International Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Works prior to his appointment as Auditor General. His current directorship in companies within the Maybank Group include as Director of Malayan Banking Berhad (“Maybank”).He serves as Chairman of the Audit Committee and as a member of the Nomination and Remuneration, and Employee Share Option Scheme Committees of the Board of Maybank Berhad. He is also Chairman of ICB Islamic Bank Ltd (Bangladesh), Protasco Berhad, Roadcare Sdn Bhd, Pelangi Management Sdn Bhd and PNB Commercial Sdn Bhd, and Director of Unilever (Malaysia) Holdings Sdn Bhd and University Tun Abdul Razak Sdn Bhd as well as a member of the Audit Committee, Johor Corporation. Datuk Dr. Syed Othman Syed Hussin AlhabshiDatuk Dr. Syed Othman bin Syed Hussin Alhabshi was appointed as a Director of Maybank Islamic on 30 January 2008. Datuk Dr. Syed Othman has vast experience as an academician. He held various academic leadership and research post at International Islamic University of Malaysia, University Utara Malaysia, University Tun Abdul Razak and Institute of Islamic Understanding of Malaysia before he assumed responsibility as the Professor ofIslamic Economics and Chief Academic Officer at the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (“INCEIF”). His current directorship in companies within the Maybank Group include as Director of Etiqa Takaful Berhad and Pak-Kuwait Takaful Pte Ltd, Karachi, Pakistan. He is also a director of Prima Prai Sdn Bhd, Epen Bina Sdn Bhd and Universiti Teknikal MARA Sdn Bhd. He attended all 6 Boards Meetings held in the financial year ended 30 June 2010. Zainal Abidin Jamal

Zainal Abidin JamalZainal Abidin Jamal was appointed as a Director of Maybank Islamic on 28 January 2010. He is a practising corporate and commercial lawyer and established his firm, Zainal Abidin & Co, in 1987, where he is a Senior Partner. He was enrolled as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1986. Between 1983 and 1986, he served as the Company Secretary of Harrisons Malaysian Plantations Berhad. Prior to that, he had practised in Singapore where he was enrolled in 1980 as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore and had also served as a First Class Magistrate in Brunei Darussalam. His current directorship in companies within the Maybank Group include as Chairman of Mayban Trustees Berhad and Director of Malayan Banking Berhad (“Maybank”), Etiqa Takaful Berhad, EtiqaInsurance Berhad, Maybank International (L) Limited, and Mayban International Trust (L) Ltd. He serves as a member of the Credit Review, Nomination and Remuneration, and Employee Share Option Scheme Committees of the Board of Maybank. He also serves on the Boards of Lam Soon (M) Berhad and Kesas Holdings Berhad, PNB Asset Management (Japan) Co Ltd, PNB International Limited, PNB-SBI ASEAN Gateway Investment Management Limited and several other private limited companies. Tan Sri Dato’ Ahmad Fuzi Haji Abdul RazakTan Sri Dato’ Ahmad Fuzi Haji Abdul Razak was appointed as a Director of Maybank Islamic on 5 December 2011. Tan Sri Dato’ Ahmad Fuzi Haji Abdul Razak was the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia. He joined the Malaysian Diplomatic and Administrative Service in 1972, and served in various capacities at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, mainly in the Political Division, and at the Malaysian Missions abroad in Moscow, The Hague, Canberra, Washington and Dhaka. He also served as the Director General, Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations before he assumed responsibility as the Secretary General of the World Islamic Economic Forum Foundation (WIEF).

His current directorship in other companies include as Chairman of Seremban Engineering Berhad, Amanahraya-REIT Managers Sdn Bhd, Asia-Development & Investment Bank Limited (Labuan), Sofgen (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Worldvest Energy Sdn Bhd, Theatre Management Associates Sdn Bhd, Leisure Guide Publishing Sdn Bhd, Optima Capital Sdn Bhd, Xadacorp Sdn Bhd and Ace Holdings Sdn Bhd. He also serves on the Boards of Puncak Niaga Holdings Berhad and other private limited company.

Tan Sri Dato’ Ahmad Fuzi Haji Abdul Razak is currently the Secretary General of the WIFE, Distinguished Fellow of Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) and Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations respectively.

Tan Sri Dato’ Seri (Dr) Hj. Harussani bin Hj ZakariaTan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Hj. Harussani obtained the PhD in 2001 from University of Malaya. He is a member of Meeting Council, Islamic Council and Malay Customs for the Government of Perak and the Chairman for the State Shariah Committee. He also sits on the Board of Directors of the State Islamic Economic Development Corporation. He has served Takaful Nasional Berhad since 1993 as one the Shariah Advisory Council members. Concurrently, he is also a Shariah Committee member of Bank Pembangunan & Infrastruktur Malaysia Berhad and Amanah Raya Berhad.


Dr Mohammad Deen Mohd Napiah (Member)

Dr Mohammad Deen Mohd NapiahDr Mohammad Deen Mohd Napiah is an existing Shariah Committee member of Maybank and currently an Assistant Professor at Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyah of Laws at the IIUM. He holds a Doctorate of Philosophy from Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland. His PhD thesis was “The Theory of the Contract of Agency (Al Wakalah in Islamic Law).” Prior to his appointment as a member of the Shariah Committee members of Maybank in 2007, he was the Shariah Advisor for EON Bank Berhad from 1997 to 2003. Besides being involved in the Shariah advisory, he is also currently an Academic Assessor for National Accreditation Council since 2001. He has writtenand presented various papers on Shariah Laws.


Dr Ismail bin Mohd @ Abu Hassan

Dr Ismail bin Mohd @ Abu HassanDr Ismail bin Mohd @ Abu Hassan is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Islamic Law of IIUM. He holds a 1st class honors first degree in Shariah from University Malaya in 1989 and obtained Law Degree from SOAS University, London in 1992. He pursued his PhD at the Manchester University, England and obtained his doctorate in 1997. He has been lecturing at the Department of Islamic Law for more than 10 years since 1989. He had also been involved in writing of various papers relates to Shariah Laws, in particularly on Islamic Will and Trust. Among his latest papers was “The Principle of Trust in the Realm of Islamic Law; The Labuan Offshore Trust Act, 1996, Challenges and Way Forward. He was one of the committee members in drafting the Islamic law for Will and Trust for Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (“JAKIM”) and Malaysia Islamic Judiciary Department. Prior to his appointment as a member of the Shariah Committee Maybank in 2007, he was sitting in the Shariah Committees of Takaful Nasional Berhad and CIMB Group.


Dr. Ahcene Lahsasna
Graduate Studies Advisor, Shariah and Legal Studies Department, INCEIF
Dr. Ahcene LahsasnaDr. Ahcene Lahsasna is a lecturer of Shariah and Legal studies Department, INCEIF and has been appointed as the new Graduate Students Advisor, effective from 1 October 2008. He has been newly appointed as a new member of Shariah Committee of Maybank Islamic, effective June 2009.

Dr. Ahcene Lahsasna received his Baccalaureate in Islamic Science from the New secondary School, and Bachelor degree in Islamic Science from Islamic University Emir Abd Kadir, Algeria before coming to Malaysia to do his Masters and Ph.D in Islamic Law & Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh and Usul Fiqh) at the International Islamic University Malaysia. Prior to joining INCEIF, he was with Islamic Science University of Malaysia, lecturing Shariah and law. To put his legal academic background into practice, he joined Manufacturer and exporter group in Malaysia as international marketing Manager and Head of Documentation Department, he spent more than 6 years in the business and international trade. He has written and presented various papers on Shariah Laws.



Encik Sarip Bin Adul
Lecturer at University Malaysia Sabah
Encik Sarip Bin AdulEncik Sarip is a lecturer at University Malaysia Sabah with expertise in Shariah and specialising in Muamalat Islam and Islamic Finance. Prior to that, he was a lecturer at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) for 7 years. He was appointed a Shariah Committee member of Maybank Islamic/Maybank Group effective May 2011. He obtained his first degree in Shariah from the University of Al-Azhar, Egypt and Master in Fiqh and Usul Al-Fiqh from University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan. He is pursuing his PhD in Shariah at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and is also an advisor for the graduate student programme. He is currently a member of Majlis Fatwa Negeri Sabah



Chief Executive Officer

Muzaffar Hisham
Chief Executive Officer
Muzaffar HishamMuzaffar Hisham was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Maybank Islamic Berhad and Head of Maybank Group Islamic Banking Division on the 30 March 2011. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Economics and Accounting from University of Bristol, United Kingdom. Muzaffar, has collectively 16 years of experience in banking and financial services in investment banking and consumer banking business. He started his career in Corporate Banking and Loan Syndication and later involved in the business growth in Malaysia Private Debt Securities (“PDS”) Market, primarily in the MYR PDS Market during his days in Amanah Merchant Bank Berhad and Amanah Short Deposits Berhad. He was involved in capital markets transactions during his days in CIMB Investment Bank, in the Investment Banking Division and HSBC Malaysia, as Head Islamic Debt Capital Markets. He was appointed as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad which was his last position in CIMB before he joined Maybank. In CIMB Islamic Bank, he was involved in the post merger integration process and development of the CIMB Islamic Banking franchise. He was also primarily involved in the development of the consumer banking business and eventually managing its regional business.
